East LA Makerspace

Per 2017 Census American Community Survey residents of my hometown, East Los Angeles, compose of 48% high school graduates with 6% containing a bachelors degree or higher. The education system has failed East Los Angeles.

Exploratory learning has been a powerful tool for myself throughout my youth and adulthood. I have been a member of several makerspaces in San Francisco and Los Angeles, which provide access to tools and a community of cooperative creation. After the local makerspace Null Space labs moved 16 miles away, there was no community resources to access prototyping tools.

I decided to open my garage and tools to the community to create and participate in exploratory learning.

We currently comprise of 20 members of the East LA Makerspace who meeting biweekly to discuss projects and build.
